Domain Name Services
What is a Domain Name
To reach another person on the Internet you have to type a unique name (domain name) or number (IP Address) into your
browser's address bar. Since computers only understand numbers and humans best understand descriptive names,
a system of using descriptive labels was devised. That required equipment to translate human readable
descriptive names into computer readable codes. This is done at every web server using a Domain Name Server (DNS).
That address, domain name, has to be unique to every person and entity on the Internet so computers know where
to find each other without confusion. In 1998 The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ("ICANN"), an
independent non-profit public-benefit corporation, was established to coordinate international domain name
registrations. ICANN coordinates these unique identifiers across the world. Without that coordination we wouldn't
have one global Internet.
ICANN Mission
"The mission of The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ("ICANN") is to coordinate, at
the overall level, the global Internet's systems of unique identifiers, and in particular to ensure the
stable and secure operation of the Internet's unique identifier systems."
Domain Name Search
Domain Name search services are extremely important factors in the creation and design of any website.
Serious thought should be given to the selection of a domain name that reflects the primary theme of your website.
This can have a positive affect on your search engine ranking. If needed, we can provide guidance with the
domain name search and selection task.
Domain Name Registration
Once you have settled on a domain name it must be registered. This task is part and parcel of our overall
custom web design services as is the domain name search and selection task.
